Hello Everyone -
My name is Tara Hunter and welcome to my classroom website. I am the proud graduate of Central Michigan University where I earned by Bachelor's Degree in Education with a double major in English and History. Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to teach in a wide variety of classrooms from London, England; to Washington, North Carolina; to Vestaburg, Michigan. I completed part of my student teaching abroad in London, England before graduation in December of 2007. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I actually got to teach Shakespeare in Shakespeare's city!
My first teaching job was along the coast of North Carolina in the small city of Washington. While there I taught English I, Honors English I, English III, and Honors English III. In addition to teaching, I was also the JV and Varsity Volleyball Coach and the Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach. I also coordinate with the junior students to create Prom for two years. After three years down in the sun, I decided to move back to Michigan, due to missing my family.
Unfortunately, I did not find a teaching position right away therefore I became a substitute teacher. I have a newfound respect for the people who make a career out of substitute teaching. However, I did gain many new experiences within in many different classrooms with students of all ages (4-18). Eventually, I earned a few long-term positions to add some stability to my life.
Thankfully, the following summer (2012) I was offered an English teaching position at Vestaburg High School. I am currently in my second year there, where I teach English 9, English 10, U.S. History, and a writing group. In addition to teaching, I am the Model U.N. Advisor and the Drama Club Director.
When I am not teaching, grading, doing lesson plans, or working on graduate class work, I enjoy reading, biking, playing with my black lab, Tanner, or watching movies. Hopefully, I will be able to enjoy the latter activities a little more next year once I have graduated with my Master's Degree in Education Technology from Central Michigan University. Go Chips!
Sincerely,
Tara Hunter
