WEEKLY UPDATE
May 20 - May 24
SENIORS FINAL WEEK!!!
Seniors will be finishing up their social issue project by collecting all of their information and research and creating a informational product before beginning the final exam review. Seniors final exam for English will be Friday.
May 13 - May 17
This week senior will be continue their study of a current social issue. This week they will be research a variety of sources that provide information, causes, effects and long term implications. Student will then be using this information to create an annotated bibliography and a final product.
May 6 - May 10
Seniors will be doing a brief exploration of different social issues that impact the world around them. They will be selecting one issue that they want to study a little bit more in depth for the final project of the year.
April 29 - May 3
Students will be finalizing their Hamlet essays this week. They will have the opportunity to partake in some self and peer editing activities to review their essays before turning in the final draft on Friday.
April 22 - April 26
This week students will continue to work on their Hamlet essays with the focus this week being on rebuttals and conclusion paragraphs along with some peer reviews.
April 15 - April 18
Students will be writing their body paragraphs this week on their Hamlet essay. Based on last week's selection will determine which method students will go about writing their paragraphs. Students will need the mapping document that they completed last week as their notes. Students will also do some peer edits towards the end of the week to check for content and correct information.
April 8 - April 12
This week students will be focusing on the body paragraph portion of their essay. This style of writing is vastly different from any form that students have written in previous years so it is imperative that students pay attention to notes, handouts, and instructions.
April 1 - April 5
Welcome back! Hope everyone had a relaxing and happy Spring Break and is now ready to get back into the swing of things!
This week students will begin to formulate their own theories about which actor's adaptation did the best to showcase Shakespeare's intent of human nature through the character of Hamlet.
March 18 - March 22
Students will finish performances in class this week. From this point, students will select one version that they think showcases Shakespeare's message about human nature through the character of Hamlet as their primary focus for their essay. Students will begin to construct the essay this week.
March 11 - March 15
This week students will finish watching the different adaptations of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Students will then begin to work on the post unit assessment. They will select one scene that has been the focus within class to preform in class. Students will take the scene that they have selected and write their own interpretation before preforming.
March 4 - March 8
Students will continue to analyze key scenes from Shakespeare's Hamlet. They will also be viewing four different adaptations of those scenes as research for their literary essay on who shows Shakespeare's intent on human nature the way he originally intended.
Feb 25 - March 1
This week students will begin to do a deep dive into three key scenes of Hamlet looking at the over-arching question of what does Shakespeare say about human nature in these scenes.
Feb 18 - Feb 22
Students will start to read, explore,and analyze Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet. By the end of the week, students should have an introductory knowledge of the basic plot of the play.
Feb 11 - Feb 14
This week will focus on the historical elements that influenced Shakespeare and his specific writing style.
Feb 4 - Feb 8
Students will put the finishing touches on their partner projects on the different aspects that influenced Shakespeare's life, writing, and culture. Presentations will begin on Tuesday.
Jan 28 - Feb 1
Wacky Michigan Winter Weather - Snow + Ice + Negative 30 degrees+ wind + Polar Vortex = No school this week. :)
Jan 21 - Jan 25
Due to snow/ice days last week, midterms have been shifted to finish Monday. Second semester will begin on Tuesday and seniors will begin by working on background research into Elizabethan times, specifically on Shakespeare.
Jan 14 - Jan 18 - MIDTERMS!
Students will be working and reviewing their study guides, notes, handouts, and past assignments to prepare for midterms at the end of the week. Thursday and Friday will be 1pm release days for midterms. Thursday midterms are 1st, 3rd, and 5th hour exams. Friday midterms are 2nd, 6th, and 7th hour exams.
Jan 7 - Jan 11
WELCOME BACK!
This is the final week before midterms! Students will be making real-world connections to Fahrenheit 451 on how the themes of technology, isolation, and ignorance play into today's world.
Dec 17 - Dec 21
Due to the snow/ice day last week, students were unable to finalize the third and final section of Fahrenheit 451. As a results, this week will officially wrap up the fiction analysis of the class novel. Students will complete the post reading questions, symbolism analysis, and figurative interpretations of the novel's impact on the world around the characters.
Dec 10 - Dec 14
This week students will finish reading Fahrenheit 451, complete the section packet, answer the post-reading questions, and take the quiz. They will also work on analyzing the key symbolism and thematic impacts of the novel on present day.
Dec 2 - Dec 7
Students will be finalizing section two reading questions and the section quiz at the beginning of this week. After that, they will be starting the third and final section of the book.
Nov 26 - Nov 20
Students will be wrapping up the second section of Fahrenheit 451 this week. Students will finish reading, complete the section packet, take the section quiz, and answer the post-reading questions by the end of the week.
Nov 19 - Nov 21
No School Thursday or Friday for Thanksgiving Break
Students will be beginning the second section of Fahrenheit 451 working on the reading comprehension work as they are reading. Students will also be taking a look at censorship both in and out of the book.
Nov 12 - Nov 16
No School - Thursday, November 15th - Good Luck Hunters and Be Safe!
Seniors will be wrapping up section 1 this week. They will be answering a series of post-section questions that focus more on the overall concepts as opposed to the basic reading comprehension questions that are in their packet. They will also be taking a quiz over section 1 this week.
Nov 5 - Nov 9
Students will be continuing to read Fahrenheit 451 in the class. As they read, they will be working on the guided reading for the first section, The Hearth and the Salamander.
Oct 30 - Nov 2
Students will be gather a working knowledge of the word dystopia and how it is used in literature. Later on this week, students will begin reading the first section of the novel.
Oct 22 - Oct 25
This week students will be holding a Socratic discussion over the anticipatory questions that they answered last week. Parent Teacher conferences are also this week Wednesday 5:00 - 7:30pm and Thursday from 1 pm-4 pm and 5:30 pm- 7:30 pm. Students will be released at 11am on Thursday. There is no school Friday Oct 26 or Monday Oct 29.
Oct 15 - Oct 19
Students will begin the next unit of looking at both fiction and non-fiction. Students will be reading a class novel, Fahrenheit 451, but will be doing some introductory questions, discussions, and vocabulary before beginning the novel.
Oct 8 - Oct 12
Students will be wrapping up the poetry unit this week it will include their final poetry submission which is in the book of poetry that students will be creating.
Oct 1 - Oct 5
Students will complete their Poet Study this week in which includes their analysis of the poet's poems and the students attempts to mimic the poet's style of poetry. They will also be completing the Mid-Unit assessment this week.
Sept 24 - Sept 28
Students will begin this week looking at a wide variety of poets. They will read a collection of poems by several poets of their own choosing before selecting one poet to be the focus of their poet study.
Sept 17 - Sept 21
Students will be exploring poetry in the terms of music as a type of poetry. They will be selecting a song of their choice and analyzing it for examples of figurative language, tone, subject, and overall theme. There will be a poetry terms quiz on Friday.
Sept 10 - Sept 14
Students will be continuing their exploration of poetry. They will be examining poetry, terms, styles, and different poets as a way to expand their own knowledge of poetry as well as expanding their own poetry skills.
Sept 4 - Sept 6
No School Monday - Labor Day
Students will be continuing their study of poetry. They will be finishing up their I Am Poster project on Tuesday which does include presenting those posters to the class. Students will be reading and analyzing a variety of poems using BHH method (Brain, Head, and Heart).
Aug 27 - Aug 29 (DALMAC is here!)
With the DALAMC here, we have a short week with class only Monday, Tuesday, and an 11 o'clock release on Wednesday. Students will be beginning their first unit by examining poetry. To start things off, students will be completing the I Am poetry project as a way to express themselves.
Aug 21 - Aug 24 Welcome Back to School!
I hope that everyone has had a great summer break and are geared up to come back to school! This week is fairly simple. Students will be doing some preliminary writing and the course pre-test. We will also be going over the syllabus. Students will also be selecting a choice novel to start this year. Students are required to read this book daily.
