Welcome to U.S. History! Throughout the course of the year we will be covering events in U.S. History from the end of Reconstruction (1880s) until present day. We will be examining the various aspects that have shaped the U.S. in social, economic, financial, and political features. Weekly Update
June 10th & June 11th
Final exams are these two days. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hours will be on Monday, June 10th. 5th, 6th, and 7th hours will be on Tuesday, June 11th.
June 3 - June 7
Students will start the week off presenting to their classmates on their research projects from last week. The remainder of the week will be dedicated to preparing for the final exam.
May 28 - May 31
Students will be working on their choice historical event research project. They will conclude their research on Tuesday and then begin to design a presentation of their topic and subsequent information for their classmates.
May 20 - May 24
Students will be concluding the Civil Rights Era this week with the unit test on Wednesday. The remainder of the week will be devoted to students starting their own research project on US events after the 1960s.
May 13 - May 17
Students will be continuing the Civil Right Movement this week looking at the impact that the key events from last week had on local and national scales.
May 6 - May 10
Students will continue their study of the Civil Rights Movement this week with the creation of the key events time line before looking at the events more in depth.
April 28 - May 3
Students will be begin the week looking at the pop culture aspects of the 1950s before starting a timeline activity that will focus on the major Civil Rights Era Events that started in the 1940s and lasted through the 1980s.
April 22 - April 26
Students will be wrapping up the Cold War this week with the unit test being on Thursday. Friday will look at the difference between classes that emerge during the 1950s.
April 15 - April 19
This week students will continue to study the Cold War as it expands into other areas around the world, places like Korea and China. Students will also look at how the Red Scare impact Americans at home with growing communist threats and McCarthyism.
April 8 - April 12
Students will be focusing on the Cold War this week. They will start the week off looking at the Cold War Origins, causes, and mounting tensions between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. Students will then have a chance, at the end of the week, to partake in some covert ops as undercover CIA agents.
April 1 - April 5
Welcome back! Hope everyone had a relaxing and happy Spring Break and is now ready to get back into the swing of things!
Students will be wrapping up the unit on World War II this week. They will be taking the unit test on Friday
March 18 - March 22
Students will finish up the impact of the war on Monday. The remainder of the week will examine the fighting of World War II looking at the key battles in Europe and the Pacific, fighting styles, and new weaponry.
March 11 - March 15
Students will continue to learn about World War II this week. The focus will be on how different demographics of Americans were impacted by the war and the war effort before beginning to look at the fighting of the war.
March 4 - March 8
World War II origins and main causes will be the primary focus for this week. Students will explore the different country leaders, political/governmental dynamics of various countries, as well as why many European leaders gave into appeasement for so long.
Feb 25 - March 1
Students will be reviewing the Great Depression unit before taking the unit test on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will explore the different events that lead to the outbreak of World War II.
Feb 18 - Feb 22
Students will wrap up the Great Depression unit this week looking at the human impact that the depression had on the average American. Students will also explore the different organizations and agencies that came out of FDR's New Deal.
Feb 11 - Feb 14
The focus at the beginning of the week will be on economic collapse and the government's response. We will then shift to the impact that the depression had on everyone's lives.
Feb 4 - Feb 8
Students will continue to study the Great Depression this week.
Jan 28 - Feb 1
Wacky Michigan Winter Weather - Snow + Ice + Negative 30 degrees+ wind + Polar Vortex = No school this week. :)
Jan 21 - Jan 25
Due to the snow/ice days last week, midterms will be finished on Monday and 2nd semester will start on Tuesday. Students will begin the new semester studying the Great Depression.
Jan 14 - Jan 18
Students will be working and reviewing their study guides, notes, handouts, and past assignments to prepare for midterms at the end of the week. Thursday and Friday will be 1pm release days for midterms. Thursday midterms are 1st, 3rd, and 5th hour exams. Friday midterms are 2nd, 6th, and 7th hour exams.
Jan 7 - Jan 11
WELCOME BACK!!!
This is the final week before midterms! Students will be getting a chance to explore what the 1920s culture and society was like in addition to the problems that led to the Great Depression.
Dec 17 - Dec 21
This week will wrap up the studying of World War I focusing on the ratification of the Treaty of Versailles and the post-war tensions that arose once the war had concluded. Students will end with week with the unit test.
Dec 10 - Dec 14
Students will continue their study of World War I in terms of the impact that the home front had on the war effort through various groups including the role of propaganda. Students will also examine some of the major and important battles of the war.
Dec 3 - Dec 7
After learning about the MAIN causes of WWI and how the United States went from neutrality to being in the war, this week will focus on the weapons, battles, and lifestyle of the war.
Nov 26 - Nov 30
Students will be beginning World War I unit this week. They will start looking at the MAIN causes of the war and how imperialism help to contribute to the "Great War".
Nov 19 - Nov 21
No School Thursday or Friday for Thanksgiving Break
Students will be concluding the unit on Imperialism this week.
Nov 12 - Nov 16
No School - Thursday, November 15th - Good Luck Hunters and Be Safe!
Students will be continuing the study of the U.S. expansion policy overseas. Students will focusing on how the U.S. handled becoming an global power. They will also be taking a expansionism vocabulary quiz this week.
Nov 5 - Nov 9
Students will be continuing to look at how the U.S. became an imperialist nation specifically during the Spanish-American War, where the U.S. gained numerous territories to add to its empire.
Oct 30 - Nov 2
This week students will be looking at imperialism and the steps that the United States did to become an imperialist nation. Students will have the chance to act like the U.S. and lay claim to "unclaimed" lands.
Oct 22 - Oct 25
Students will be finishing Unit 3 - Progressivism on a National Stage this week. They will be getting the study guide on Monday and will have the unit test on Wednesday. Parent Teacher conferences are also this week Wednesday 5:00 - 7:30pm and Thursday from 1 pm-4 pm and 5:30 pm- 7:30 pm. Students will be released at 11am on Thursday. There is no school Friday Oct 26 or Monday Oct 29.
Oct 15 - Oct 19
This week students will be looking at how Progressives used the national stage to try and solve some of the problems that were brought to the attention of the masses by the muckrakers. Students will be looking at Presidents Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson as progressive presidents and how they tried to help people, businesses, and the environment.
Oct 8 - Oct 12
Students will be continuing to explore that problems that developed in the 1900s as more and more people immigrated to the United States.
Oct 1 - Oct 5
This week students will be Muckrakers, journalists who investigate the worst problems and report on those issues. Students will explore some of the worst issues at the turn of the century in the U.S.
Sept 24 - Sept 28
Students will be looking at immigration to the U.S. in the late 1800s to early 1900s. They will experience what it was like to attempt to immigrate into the U.S. through Ellis Island in New York Harbor.
Sept 17 - Sept 21
Students will be wrapping up their first unit this week over industrialism. They will be reviewing and working on a study guide during the week with the first unit test being on Friday.
Sept 10 - Sept 14
On Monday, students will begin to look at how the labor force and labor unions reacted to the expansion of industry. On Tuesday, students will examine the events, effects, and impact that 9/11 had on American lives. The rest of the week will continue with the labor's response.
Sept 4 - Sept 6
No School Monday - Labor Day
The first unit for this new semester is on Innovations and Inventions at the turn of the 19th century. The rest of the week students will continue looking at different innovations and how industry dealt with those new inventions.
Aug 27 - Aug 29
Students will be using their Chromebooks to set up their accounts for Google Classroom, SimpleNote, and History Alive. Students will be concluding the pre-test this week.
Aug 21 - Aug 24 Welcome Back to School!
I hope that everyone has had a great summer break and are geared up to come back to school! This week in history, students will be taking the pre-test to see how much they remember from last years history class and how much they already know about history. We will also be going over the syllabus.
